This One Goes Out To The Dogs

I have always been one of those weirdos who goes up to random dogs on the street, and as JD likes to say I get a little too personal with them ha, but not having my dog Henry in my life for the past 9 months has had me going through some serious withdrawal. I go out of my way (even chasing down the street) to get my doggie-loving fix. When the random dog and I really connect I usually make JD take a picture. Below are my faves.

 

Everything will be much better in a little over a week when I am finally reunited with the cutest boy in the world, Henry!

I have been gushing over these images from Refinery 29 featuring Opening Ceremony buyer Kate Foley in her Williamsburg apartment with her very enviable wardrobe. Major girl crush.

The Benah Bag

I've never been much of a handbag girl. I'm always after new clothing and shoes, but am perfectly content with my trusty old vintage bags. I don't think I have actually bought a new (non-vintage) bag in over 5 years. That's why I knew by my reaction to this Benah bag that it was something special. I love this bags boxy and scructured shape, the school girlish feel, and the mix of canvas and leather. 

I have been crushing on this bag for a few months now, but the price was pretty steep and it was selling out quickly. Yeterday the shopping gods must have been looking down on me cause I found one left at my fave neighborhood store The Corner Shop. Even better it was on sale!! Benah bags are not yet being sold internationally, which I'm sure will change as the brands popularity grows in the coming years, but for now I have got to say I kind of love knowing that I will be one of the only girls in NYC rocking this amazing bag. 

 

 

Speaking of handbags and The Corner Shop, a few months ago the The Corner Shop blog was asking customers to send in a picture of their favorite bag and a sneak peak of your everyday essentials. Here is the pic I sent in. Have got to give a shout out to my friend Jade for giving me this Pendleton bag that pretty much hasn't left my side since getting it.

Sydney Fashion Week: Runway

Here are some pictures of my favorite collections from Sydney fashion week Spring/Summer 2011-2012 (Southern Hemisphere). I got these great images off The Look Book, which is one of my favorite Australian fashion blogs. One that I would definitely recommend checking out.

There were a lot of amazing bright and bold colors featured in the collections. At the same time simple, eternal, and crisp white pieces were also showcased. While somewhat opposite, to me both are essential elements in a spring/summer wardrobe.

Sydney Fashion Week: Street Style

Last week was fashion week here in Sydney, and the ladies turned it out. To me Australian fashion is all about that understated, effortless, and relaxed look. It's the thing I love so much about the clothing and designers that are coming out of Australia. I hope I can bring some elements of that cool Aussie look back with me to NYC. 

Below are some of my favorite street style looks from the week, and I'll be posting my favorite looks from the runway shows soon so check back!

Kangaroo Island

After the Great Ocean Road, we pushed on to Kangaroo Island off the coast of South Australia. KI is barely populated by humans, and is instead filled with sprawling farmlands, forest, and stuffed with wildlife. Its fairly massive which took us by surprise, and you could easily spend a week just exploring all the hidden beaches, farmstands, and vineyards. We didn't have tons of time so we hit up a lot of the popular sights including Seal Bay and Remarkable Rocks, where we took a lot of photos. Everything about the island just felt unspoilt and wild, and the air was the crispest and cleanest we've ever experienced. Awesome place.

Melbourne and Great Ocean Road

Man we've been lazy with getting these up! We took a road trip down south to Melbourne, and then to the Great Ocean Road which is Australia's answer to Highway 1 in Cali. Melbourne was as described, a little grittier and a little more "New York" than Sydney. Cool cobblestone laneways, killer food and coffee, and great shopping. All that being said, we still think we might the right choice in Sydney. (Can't beat those beaches.) The Great Ocean Road is about an hour further south from Melbourne and goes around a cape along the Southern Ocean. You could do it in about 3 hours start to finish, but we took 2 days to explore. There are beautiful little towns, and heaps of things to do. It ends at the Twelve Apostles rock formations that just stand out in the ocean. All in all, a great road trip and definitely something worth doing. 

 

Plastic Plates

So its been a while since I put up some tunes, but I think I've found a couple worth while jammies from LA based producer, Plastic Plates. I put up a track of this guy's a while ago when he remixed Social Studies, but I've since discovered his remixes of Sia and Gypsy and the Cat, which are both pretty, pretty, pretty good. Both also happen to be Australian artists, so there's that too. He, as was mentioned before is a Sydneysider by birth, but has since moved to LA. Why would he do that? His sound is funky and synthy, and is in a lot of ways, a sound I am trying to find in my own production. Good on ya Plastic Plates...

NZ Represent

I love showcasing amazing Australian designers, but I have got to give a shout out to New Zealand designers as well. There have been so many great ones emerging in the last few years...particually Ruby. I have been eyeing up this collection for long time now, and been wanting to share...so here it is!

I'm definitely going to be taking some styling cues from this collection. Hope I can look this chic and playful this coming autumn back in NYC. And yes, I do realize autumn is a long way away in the states, but it's in full force here in Sydney so sweaters and jackets are on the mind ha

 

Inspiration Folder

While browsing online at fashion blogs and different sites (which is more often then I'd like to admit) I always try to save images that I feel a certain connection to and that make me stop and look twice. My inspiration folder on my desktop was starting to overflow, so I decided to put a bunch up on here.

Sorry for the complete randomness, and I guess it's kind of obvious that I have a thing for aqua and blue tones...along with anything warm weather related.
